Arne Hortell's C11 time pattern analysis software is focused around identifying hidden or less than obvious patterns of actions over time. Such patterns are typically identified when investigating criminal behaviour, emergency situations, terrorism and military interventions but can equally well be identified within industrial processes, consumer behaviour etc.

The tool allows for the plotting of any number of events over time and will present these events on a circular graph where each circle represents a user specified interval. Typically such intervals can be a week, a month, the length of a full moon procession (interval between full moons e.g.), a full year or in fact any user configurable interval. This makes it possible to identify recurring patterns on e.g. public holidays, religious holidays, given days of the week or times of day.

The advantage of a circular pattern is the ability to see complex patterns of events occurring together in any repetitive form. Also, events that are not uniformly distributed will still be clearly visble to the human eye as no computer algorithm has so far surpassed the human mind when it comes to identifying patterns within patterns. By using full graphical plotting of all events (actions) such patterns can be quickly idnetified ad very complex links can be further investigated.

Widow is an add-on software component working within the Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Visio (Reg. Trademarks) platforms. To use the component, a copy of Microsoft Excel 2003 or 2007 as well as a copy of Microsoft Visio 2003 or 2007 has to be installed on the computer using the software.
